Brewed since 1944 by John Martin specially for Belgium, this is a full bodied Irish stout with a continental edge. A top fermented beer that has a strong, warming body due to the higher alcohol content. Yet still creamy & smooth. Look: dark ruby red, frothy head. Aroma: roasted barley, toffee, butterscotch, blackcurrant. Taste: coffee, bitter chocolate, liquorice, molasses, dark fruit.

Created by Brasserie des Légendes & made entirely of malts & hops. The controlled production allows a 10-day fermentation in German oak casks. Originally brewed in the 50’s at Dupont farm brewery the use of roasted malts gives it a very dark look & nice roast, but not too heavy. The brewery was established in 1931 within the confines of Orval Abbey. The Orval monks only brew this one amber beer & it is highly rated by beer lovers around the world. After bottling the characteristics can actually change from 6 months on, this is due to the fermentation methods. Saint-Rémy Abbey is located in Rochefort, the brewery uses their own strain of yeast. Brewed to the strict standards of an authentic Trappist product, this dark dubbel style ale is the oldest of all 3 Rocheforts made. Look: hazy amber-red, white head. Aroma: raisins, prunes, light chocolate, spicy yeast. Taste: light citrus, fruit, bittersweet orange, brown sugar hints.

St Bernardus is a brewery in Watou connected by two Monasteries. One for its name & another for the beer. Meaning this traditional witbier is an abbey ale first developed by the well-known Monks of Westvleteren. Look: whitish-yellow, dense white head. Aroma: wheat, apple, tarty, herbal-spice. Taste: coriander notes, orange fruitiness, honey sweetness.

Every winter since 1844 this beer has been brewed seasonally on Dupont’s own farm. Intended for the workers this beer is a great thirst quencher & with all the characteristics of a classic farmhouse ale. Look: coppery blond. Aroma: fine hops, lemon, hay. A traditionally brewed farmhouse ale with an unmistakably rich & distinctive flavour. It is unfiltered & undergoes a secondary top- fermentation process in the bottle. Look: warm golden blond, frothy white head. Aroma: citrus hops, spice. Taste: slight tang, fresh apple, hoppy aftertaste.

A sweet, tart Lambic blended with candy sugar to add caramel notes. This beer was forgotten over time but, in 1978 the Lindemans family brought Faro to center stage once more. Look: amber, small creamy head. Aroma: sherbet, woody, winey notes. Taste: tarty, sweet syrup, ample sour-sweet finish.

Introduced in 2005, Lindeman’s intended to bring back an ancestral tradition. This beer couples the sweetness of cider & the sour tart character of a lambic. A variety of apples are blended with a lambic beer that is at least one year old. Look: golden honey, cloudy, white head. Aroma: green apples, cider. Taste: sharp, full-bodied, sweet cider, slightly sour.

The Rodenbach family established the brewery in 1836 & have since created this exceptional award winning Flemish red ale. Blended with 33% young beer & 67% old beer that has been matured in wooden oak casks. The finish is a deserving Grand Cru wine. Look: bright red. Aroma: fruity, wood, wine like, balsamic. Tast: refreshing, fruity, oak-tart, sour.

Flemish red ale was introduced by the small family owned Verhaeghe Brewery dating back to 1885. Also know as ‘The Burgundies of Belgium’ this beer is made with roasted malts & low bitter hops then matured for months in oak casks. Look: ruby red. Aroma: oak , cherry, balsamic. Tast: full, sweet-fruity, sour.

The UK’s first authentic Trappist ale is brewed at Mount Saint Bernard Abbey in Leicestershire. English barley, hops & yeast are used to produce this full bodies & twice-fermented beer. We are advised by the Monks to store it in a cool, dark, quiet place. Our first batch was delivered, in person by the Monks of the abbey! Look: mahogany, subtle red hue, beige head. Aroma: dark chocolate, liquorice, rich fruit. Taste: dark chocolate, pepper, fig, warm dry finish.

Scourmount Abbey is home to the brewery that produces this dark Trappist ale. It is the oldest of all the Chimay biers & it is brewed in a dubbel style, but with an additional fruitiness. The barley used is from Champagne, France. Look: bright copper, thin creamy foam. Aroma: fruity, malt, apricot. Taste: sweet, dark fruits, light bitterness.

The Rochefort Abbey has been brewing beer since 1595 & produces this Trappist quadruple that is considered to be one of the best in the world! This living beer is happy to sit in the cellar & develop its taste over time for that certain occasion. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one that is! Look: dark, creamy tan head. Aroma: dark fruits, liquorice, chocolate. Tast: malt, plum, raisin, blackcurrant, banana.

The De Koningshoeven Brewery is a Dutch Trappist brewery who in 1884 earned enough profit from selling their beer to pay for the construction of a new Abbey & in 1984 they added a “Tasting Barn” within the grounds to accommodate their many visitors. Look: dark brown, ivory head. Aroma: fruity, dark tones of vanilla, caramel, roasted chocolate. Taste: malt, caramel sweet, dates, honey, dried fruit.

A very rich & balanced example of the classic Belgian ‘Quadrupel’ considered to be the best of its style. This Abbey beer is one of the original recipes from when the monks brewed under licence of Sint Sixtus Abbey. Often compared to the iconic ‘Westvleteren 12’. Look: dark, full ivory head. Aroma: fruity, caramel, dark chocolate. Tast: hoppy bite, malty, bitter-sweet.

Since the Chimay brewery at Scourmount Abbey was established in 1862, income from the beers still contribute to the upkeep of the Monastery & local community. Until recent times De Halve Maan was the last active brewery in Bruges. This beer is allowed to evolve over the years due to its fermentation stages.
